Indian Myna Bird

Today, whilst on my lunch break, I sat in the local park watching people, birds, clouds go by. This Indian Myna bird was hoping that I was going to give it some food. I didn’t have any food and even if I did, I wouldn’t have given it any. These birds here are in Australia are known to steal sausages off of bbq’s. Some people here don’t like them. I have to say, I don’t mind them… their cheekiness intrigues me and makes me smile.

  1. this is a wonderful picture of the myna. i’ve never seen one so close up, and, as you say, they are often considered pests. but here you depict the bird with such sympathy, that it is easy to discern its beautiful features, and, for the first time, see something owl-like about its face. i also really like the color and the green grass in the background.

    • Hello !! I am so so sorry I haven’t been in touch for so long! I hope you’ll forgive the silence! – I am glad that you like this photo of the myna – too often they are given a bad name.

  2. Great blog! I recently moved to Australia (from Canada) and have mynahs playing in the bushes outside my office window every day. I love them. They aren’t as colourful as some of the other birds here – rosellas, for example – but for a Canadian, they are still pretty cool!

    • Thank you very much for the kind compliment! Weclome to Australia! It’s a bit different from Canada 🙂 I think maybe people like us, meaning people who are not from Australia have more of a soft spot for these birds.
